HBOT Effective in Treating Sudden Deafness

Sudden Sensorineural Hearing Loss (SSHL) is a sudden total loss of hearing, typically in one ear.  The condition affects the adult population and often occurs after a viral infection.  Hearing loss can be sudden or come about over the span of a few days.  SSHL is a true emergency.  An ENT doctor should be consulted as soon as symptoms arise.  Early medical interventions can prevent permanent loss.  Published research studies on SSHL are documenting the positive effects of using hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) along with traditional steroid treatments for this condition.  Hyperbaric Therapy of the Lowcountry staff have aided many such patients and have witnessed the amazing outcomes similar to the recently aired news coverage of a young music professor's hearing return after undergoing HBOT.  To read more:  Music professor's sudden hearing loss restored at KNHC
